Georgios Tsomis was born in Aigion (Achaia / Greece). He completed his undergraduate studies at the Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Classics. He took his doctorate in the Department of Classics at the J. W. Goethe University of Frankfurt on the monadic melic poetry of Alcaeus, Sappho and Anacreon. His habilitation treatise at the University of J.W. Goethe in Frankfurt was on Quintus of Smyrna, Posthomerica (3nd century A.D.). The subjects of his research and publications are primarily Epic and Lyric Poetry. He is also concerned with the reception of works of Ancient Greek and Latin Literature in European literature, theatre, music, and film. Parallel to his studies in Classics he also studied Music Theory in Greece and Musicology at the Goethe-University, Frankfurt am Main. From 2015-2018 he worked as a scientific advisor at the International Opera-Studio Patras. Since 2016 he is organizer, scientific director and teacher at the Summer School: “Ancient Greek Drama as a Performing Art”.
